The Third Annual Franklin Township Quilt Show a big success!

The Third Annual Franklin Township Quilt Show on Saturday, April 29, was a happy day for quilters, and quilt-lovers enjoying a beautiful array of homemade quilts. Fellowship Hall at Acton United Methodist Church was filled with 50 quilts and wall hangings. Dave Ostheimer made additional display racks, so that 10 quilts could be seen in their entirety. Others were hung from the balcony of the room; folded on tables or draped over racks.

More than 70 visitors paid admission to the show, sponsored by the Franklin Township Historical Society. A delicious luncheon of soup, sandwiches and desserts was provided by the women of the Acton United Methodist Church.

People's Choice Awards were given at the close of the show. All those who purchased a ticket or entered a quilt voted for their "favorite" in each of the six categories. Awards included a first prize Rosette, and a second prize Ribbon.

Small Quilt and Wall Hanging: 1st Margaret Baker; 2nd (3-way tie) Barbara Sylvester, Barbara Purtlebaugh, and Frances Moore.

Hand-Pieced/Hand-Quilted: 1st Kris Himstedt; 2nd Jackie Foster.

Machine-Pieced/Hand-Quilted: 1st Mary Spencer; 2nd (tie) Jackie Foster and Margaret Baker.

Machine-Pieced/Machine-Quilted: 1st Frances Moore, 2nd Jackie Foster.

Antique (Pre-1940): 1st Josette Randolph, 2nd Sylvia Henricks.

Miniature: Duplicate prizes, 1st Barbara Sylvester and Frances Moore; 2nd Nancy Compton and Doris Wiggins.

Other features of the show were a "Piecing Class" by Margaret Barker, gift items for sale by the Acton church women, and the sale of their publications by the Franklin Township Historical Society.

Co-chairpersons of the event, Sheri Lathrop and Sylvia Henricks, thank all those who helped in the planning and arranging of the show, and those who served as white-gloved quilt-watchers during the show. We also sincerely thank the Acton United Methodist Church for the use of their hall.
